An event was held at Special Needs Park in Madurai where parents of special children discussed the challenges they faced in raising their children and the need for government interventions as part of International Women’s Day celebrations. There was also a need felt for government interventions to create vocational training centres for special children as also a need for a separate government policy focussing on their rehabilitation.

It is important to identify special children under a separate category and not club them with the differently-abled, which might not be appropriate.
