With twenty million students in classrooms and three million in distant education, education plays an enormous role in making India’s youth skilled and employable. Sadly though, lagging behind with outdated curricula and teaching methods, despite the Indian higher education system being the third highest in the world, it has largely failed our youth. Practical experience and learning must be the focus of a modern education alongside building sound theoretical knowledge. And this is where corporates come in. To build links with academia to boost employability skills.

Many initiatives such as Skill India, Scheme for Higher Education Youth in Apprenticeship and Skills (SHREYAS) and reforms to the University Grants Commission are paving the way for higher employability-linked education. However, the pace needs picking up. For far too long the mismatch between Indian education and labour market realities has left our youth floundering in an uncertain future.
