The current educational system in India is theory-based and does not emphasize nurturing practical ‘on-the-job’ skills. Vocational training on the other hand targets developing specific skill sets in people in which expertise can be gained with hands-on practice and one that directly helps in getting a job.

The coming times are expected to be dominated by automation thereby reducing the employability of people seeking qualifications under the traditional education system. Vocational training, on the contrary, would concentrate on job areas which are technically not possible to automate. Not only will this shift be beneficial to individuals, but it would also increase the scope of employment in India.
