On the occasion of NIT Silchar’s 18th convocation, held digitally, Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal appreciated the institution for rolling out quality education and subsequently ranking high on NIRF and other international parameters. He also revealed the ministry’s vision to introduce research centric education policies, partly through collaboration with international universities to facilitate an edge to native education seekers, echoing the PM’s sentiments about the importance of research in becoming truly self reliant as a nation.

He also emphasised that students are role models and ambassadors for the National Education Policy 2020, which focuses on ‘Impact, Interact & Inclusivity’ therefore each student’s scores would be recorded in a Credit Bank which would allow them access to engineering courses. The Institute was also applauded for their efforts to adapt neighbouring villages by collaborating with the state government to also make education accessible to the less privileged
