Haryana ITIs to Skill Construction Workers

All ITIs in Haryana will soon offer courses to generate skilled artisans in construction-related work such as bricklaying, wood cutting, iron mongering, plumbing, tiles, and paint. This was stated by Haryana Finance Minister Captain Abhimanyu earlier in November. The move is to upskill traditional construction skills with modern techniques. The state government has established Haryana Bhagwan Vishwakarma Skill University in the district of Palwal, where work on updating course curriculum on traditional skills will commence.

Train the Trainers at KAU

In an effort to whet the skills of professionals in agriculture and allied sectors a ‘Training of Trainers’ programme was organised earlier in November by the Agriculture Skill Council of India (ASCI), a non- profit organisation under the Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) at Kerala Agricultural University (KAU).

The 10-day programme was aimed at Training of Trainers and Master Trainers to upskill a pool of trainers across agriculture and allied activities. The event saw a participation of more than 100 candidates. Such programs are a welcome step given the often poor quality of trainers in vocational skills across sectors.

ASCI builds capacity by upskilling farmers, daily wage workers and the self-employed in agriculture related roles through its network of certified training partners.
