SHE Programmes gears up to upskill workers in sanitation

As covid positive customers frantically contact the SHE network to avail disinfection services, sanitation workers like V. Chandrasekhar have found themselves a source of income by taking up such requests during the pandemic. There are many other youths like him who have been trained to become Sanitation and Hygiene Entrepreneurs amidst the lockdown. This network of workers frequents houses, commercial set ups and institutes to offer their services and earns between Rs 3,000 to Rs 15,000, accumulating to an earning of Rs 77 lakhs as per Gayathri Vasudevan. She is the CEO of LabourNet who joined hands with the National Skill Development Corporation and Government of Karnataka to set up the SHE network.

The organisation is also prepared to up-skill the network of workers in sectors such as car washing and delivery in case the sanitation job loses its relevance once the effects of the pandemic begin to diminish. Read more.
