Education to Employability

A day-long conclave titled ‘Heading from Education to Employability’ was organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in Gurugram, amongst other programmes and conferences that are being held throughout the country to address the alarming need of bridging the gap between education and employment.

A gigantic shift from rote learning to experiential learning is the imperative need of the hour. In the conclave held, it was highlighted that the up-gradation of the Vocational courses and the courses aligning with the industry-focused skills like vocational training in Artificial Intelligence or Machine Learning among others are crucial.

Formal vocational courses and professional certifications are important for overcoming the employability gap especially for those students who may choose to start doing a job in the middle of the 10+2+3 education system. There is a role played by the industry by skilling the workforce of tomorrow, the youth of India. While a large part of the responsibility lies solely with the governing bodies, academia should also inculcate new initiatives to make this happen under the present framework.
