Declaring Odisha as having “one of the most progressive startup policies”, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is aiming to place the state in the top three start-up hubs by lending support to a minimum of 1,000 startups by 2020. This was stated in Make in Odisha, the state’s flagship biennial event in Bhubaneswar on November 12th. Recollecting achievements since the first Make in Odisha Conclave in 2016, the Chief Minister said the state had received 124 investment intents worth more than Rs 2 lakh crore and employment opportunities for over one lakh people. Two-thirds of these projects were in different stages of execution.
The Odisha government has taken a number of steps to foster economic growth such as the Odisha Industrial Development Plan: Vision 2015, which aims to bring investments worth Rs 250,000 crore and creating 30 lakh job opportunities across six focus sectors.
The government’s World Skill Centre in Bhubaneswar, which will be managed by the Odisha Skill Development Authority with technical support from ITEES, Singapore, aims to boost the state’s Skilled-in-Odisha mission. Over 1,50,000 trainers and trainees will receive training over the next four years under this project.
