Tata Steel management and union opened a Vocational Training Institute in Jharia in August last year under the mentorship of Shavak Nanavati Technical Institute. The institute offers electrician, site safety supervisor and mechanical fitter courses to local youths. It also facilitates the placement of trainees with appropriate recruiters in the region. All these vocational courses are accredited by the government’s National Skills Qualifications Framework. The course fee is Rs 29,500 including GST. Currently, total 91 candidates are enrolled with this institute, 35 to be site safety supervisors, 33 as mechanical fitters, and 23 as electricians.

JN Tata Vocational Training Institute has enrolled 1,520 trainees in 2019-20 in Jharkhand and Odisha and offered 100 percent placement to all of them.
