Today, the air across industries is filled with the talks and demands for a skilled workforce that is efficient and knowledgeable about its trade. It is a wave that propagates empowerment by empowering the youth irrespective of gender and demographic through imparting skills of relevance and value. But this wave is not new, in fact, skill development amongst the population of India was very strongly proposed and promoted by MK Gandhi long back. He not only emphasized through words but led with examples. He himself was a practitioner and learner of a new skill, even while in the struggle for Independence. Promotion of khadi and other rural industries stand to be a prominent example of his endeavours for empowerment and Independence through skill.
