India seeks to emulate the German vocational training system

Minister of Skills Development and Entrepreneurship, K.P. Krishnan has signed an agreement with German Company Siemens and Germany’s ministry of economic cooperation and development (BMZ) with a view to making progressive changes in the Indian education ecosystem. The changes adopt the system of vocational education and training whereby a weightage of 20% is accorded to theoretical studies in vocational schools run by the government and 80% emphasis is laid on practical training whereby students directly work for Corporates under the supervision of expert trainers.

The aim is to have more skilled workforce in India so as to boost the employment opportunities in India. An improvement in the quality of the workforce would ultimately make India a better destination for foreign investments.
