While apprenticeships are a way of life in developed countries, they are still rare in India: mainly due to a decades-old law that imposed cumbersome procedures and penalties. Hope is on the horizon, however, with the 2014 revision to this bill having been passed. While challenges abound across trades and sectors, the benefits (often monetary and qualitative) far outweigh them. Apprenticeship is a role whose time has come!
