The government plans to conduct a skill mapping exercise under SWADES (Skilled Workers Arrival Database for Employment Support) initiative to map the skills of workers those who are returning to India from overseas. The exercise was kick-started under the Vande Bharat Mission with an objective to create a database of qualified citizens based on their skillsets and experience.

Majority of the returnees have been employed in sectors like Oil & Gas, Tourism, Aviation, Construction, Hospitality, IT and ITES. MSDE, under the Skill India Mission, has partnered with the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) and the Ministry of External Affairs for the initiative.
