R N Ravi, The governor of Tamil Nadu urged the graduating candidates that they should have the nation as their focus and empower themselves for the benefit of others by addressing them at the 54th convocation of Madurai Kamaraj University. He recalled the dark times of the British reign in India,and addressed the opportunities and challenges our nation is facing. In his address, Union minister of state for fisheries, animal husbandry, dairying, information and broadcasting, L Murugan, who was the guest of honour, said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken the glory of Tamil to the international arena. The NEP will take the country forward, he said. The chief guest, P. Balaram, former director of the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, was the chief guest, who reminded the students about the educational system in India.

Youth skills Day, observed on 15th July aims at the elimination of gender inequality by ensuring the access of resources to the weaker section of society. India is bracing up to make the youth more skilled, through various action plans. Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) offers around 300 types of skill training programmes. An I.T based boom is made possible through the initiatives like National Career Service Portal, smart etc. PM YUVA Yojana is introduced to elevate the standards of both educational and enterprising aspects. Other projects like ‘Yuva scheme’, ‘Aseem’ and ‘Leader’ has been initiated for youth empowerment and collective growth.
