Researches reveal that despite an increase in budgeted expenditure on education between 2006 and 2016, still, the learning outcomes for children in India have been steadily declining over the last decade.

The data from the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER) reveals that even though children are graduating to higher classes on a yearly basis, only a bare minimum is meeting the expectations.

As the pandemic drove a shift to online education, the situation even worsened and will continue to intensify the current trend. As per the ASER 2020, 5.3 percent of rural children (between 6 to10 years of age) have not even enrolled in schools this year, compared to 1.8 percent in 2018. It’s time for an overhaul!
