College Degree courses to be embedded with apprenticeship programmes soon
In an attempt to improve employability in the country as well as promote learning that is outcome-based, universities offering degree programmes have been asked by the Universities Grants Commission or the UGC to include industrial training and apprenticeship programmes as part of the course completion. Institutions have been given the liberty to design these programmes according to their own, while also keeping up with the standards set by Sector Skill Councils, industry bodies, and AICTE. Indian Railways to reintroduce SCRA upon ministry suggestion
Discontinued in 2015, the Special Class Railway Apprentice or the SCRA is to be reintroduced by the Indian Railways upon the recommendation of the Finance Ministry with the aim to provide hands-on training in technology specialized for the railways. This program, initially started in the year 1927, is supposed to train candidates chosen by the UPSC for mechanical engineering at the Indian Railways Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering in Jamalpur. American Corner in AU will help bridge the skill gaps: CM
The CM of Andhra Pradesh, YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, inaugurated the third American Corner in India at the Andhra University remotely from Amaravati. This initiative, by the American Consulate in partnership with the Andhra University, was taken to bridge the skill gaps and to enable students to study abroad as well. Read more.
