Coimbatore skill development workshop
The Coimbatore Corporation established a strict ban on the use of manual labour to clean sewage or septic tanks or underground drainage. The civic body has allotted mechanized devices to be used by all commercial establishments for the same. Not following the rules would be triggered as a violation by the corporation. Else adequate cleaning gear should be adorned by all, doing such tasks. This was stated at a function organized by National Safai Karamcharis Finance and Development Corporation, National Skill Development Corporation, and NGO NERD. SWADES Skill Cards are helping jobless returning Indians
The Indian government has been maintaining a record of returnees from work abroad. They would be categorized as per their skill set and qualifications. This was being done under the Skilled Workers Arrival Database for Employment Support (SWADES) since June 2020. The recorded individuals, which comes up to around 30,700, will be matched against job descriptions put out by employers. This initiative will help raise the employability rates of returning NRIs. This initiative is also linked to the Vande Bharat Mission (VBM). The sudden influx is blamed on the pandemic which has caused many to lose their jobs. The returnees are mostly from Gulf having worked in sectors like construction, finance, and hospitality. Read more

Employing the Ladakhi youth
The Department of Technical Education and Skill Development Ladakh organized and developed a one-day skill development workshop on March 29th. According to Lt Governor of Ladakh, R K Mathur, the objective of the workshop is for the overall development of Ladakhi residents, especially the youth. The certifications provided by the workshop would be helpful in their employment. He also stressed the point of categorizing the unemployed people in terms of experience v/s job requirement, in order to have a more efficient society. The UT Administration plans to enable a very personalized training system, whose results can be used to further perfect the programme. Read more.

Skill development to benefit villagers
The Skill Development & Entrepreneurship Department collaborated with the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and Zentek Educational & Welfare Society to organize a skill development programme for the people in the community. Initiated in March, the training focused on only the routine maintenance of drinking water distribution assets. It was a district-wide training programme and observed the participation of 59 villagers. So far the DC has completed training programmes for plumbing as well as masonry. In order to ensure the efficacy of the programme in terms of employment, the department requested logging contacts of all the trained individuals under the respective titles for further employment by the villagers. Lending a helping hand to the farmers
An agriculture post-harvest management company in the private sector has partnered with the Agriculture Skill Council of India (ASCI). The council aims to help the farmers through capacity building by bridging gaps and upgrading their skills. This specific programme will help the agricultural society develop by training its farmers with respect to the resources of the sector. The objective is to enable a more fruitful career for farmers in India by equipping them with relevant skills. A focal point of the programme is helping develop skills in the agriculture warehouse industry, which will help the sector evolve and subsequently employ more people. Read more.
