Continuing with our coverage from Kashmir, the Cluster University of Jammu (CLUJ) is contemplating introducing short-term work-oriented skill-building courses for the new academic session 2019-20. The aim is to equip youth with the necessary skills and knowledge to make them job-ready as soon as they complete training.  These skills-oriented courses will be run by five colleges — SPMR College of Commerce, GGM Science College, Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, Government MAM College and Government College of Education, Canal Road.

The Registrar of CLUJ Jatinder Khajuria said, “With the introduction of diploma and certificate skill-based job-oriented courses in higher educational institutions, at the end of three years students will have the advantage of a diploma as an add-on orientation course along with a conventional degree in science, arts or commerce.” Moves such as these help bring more agility in our education system where conventional degrees alone are leaving youth with very little useful skills on graduating.
