Attract youth to farming: Governor

Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan suggested the scientists, policy makers and industry leaders to bring in more innovation in the field of agriculture and make it appealing so that the youth of the country take it up as profession. Of late, the youth of the country taking up agriculture has gone down sharply. 

The governor addressed the mass in a two-day regional workshop on ‘Youth as torch-bearers of business – oriented agriculture in South India’ where she emphasized on the importance of agriculture although she was linked to the field of health and medicine.

Peter Carberry, Director General of ICRISAT, suggested the youth to pursue their career in agriculture as it has a huge potential that includes information technology interventions. He also emphasized on the Central and State government support available in the agriculture sector, especially for the small farmers.
